Haiti Ministry
Our Lady of Knock Parish currently has two groups that back important and critical work being done to support the people of Haiti. These are Outreach to Haiti and the St. Mary-St. Patrick Haiti Ministry.
About
Members of St. Patrick Church in Farmington have long been connected to an organization called Outreach to Haiti, which falls under the charitable and administrative umbrella of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, Connecticut. The work being done by the Haiti Ministry focuses mainly on education and healthcare in the Christ Roi neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti.
Through annual fundraisers, parish collections, and other initiatives, money has been raised to support the struggling men, women, and children of Haiti, which is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Outreach to Haiti has been working in the Caribbean nation for decades, with a history of support coming from St. Patrick Church. In addition to simply providing monetary help, members of the ministry and of the parish have had opportunities to go down to Haiti for “immersion experience” trips that have had a powerful impact on all those involved.
Additional information about Outreach to Haiti can be found at outreachtohaiti.org.
For many years, members of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Unionville have teamed up with parishioners from St. Patrick Church in Collinsville to provide both spiritual and material support for Ste. Thérèse de L’Enfant Jésus Church and School in Lilavois Haiti.
In addition to including our Haitian brothers and sisters in our prayers, the ministry has raised money through grants, drives, and special events to fund what started as a feeding program alone but has now become so much more.

This ministry, started at St. Patrick Church in Collinsville back in 1999, has become a partnership with St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Unionville, which has broadened support to fund a wider range of needs for the school and the parish including:
- Providing hot meals for more than 470 students during the weekdays of the school year
- Paying a significant portion of the teachers’ salaries
- Providing scholarships for top graduates to enable them to pursue higher education
- Providing funds for capital projects, such as rebuilding the church structure
